Why Use Alor Cabinetry & Panels
Scope & Limitations of Use

Alor Veneer Panel is designed for cabinetry fabrication across a range of applications, including cabinetry doors, drawer fronts, side and end panels, light-duty shelving, and feature wall and ceiling panelling. As a facade product with a Moisture Resistant MDF core, Alor can also be used in carcass construction where design continuity is required, provided all cut edges are sealed or edge banded to prevent moisture ingress. Each application carries its own requirements around environmental control, heat clearances, and moisture detailing, all of which are addressed in full within the Design, Fabrication & Installation Guide.

Key specification points:

  • Intended uses: residential cabinetry, commercial fit-out and commercial development cabinetry (in accordance with defined limitations)

  • Panels must be fully sealed, or edge banded at all cut edges — unsealed MDF core exposure is not covered by warranty

  • Not suitable for wet areas (bathrooms, laundries) or environments where relative humidity is expected to exceed 70% (e.g. saunas, pool rooms)

  • Not suitable as a working, sanitary or food preparation surface, including kitchen benchtops

  • Integrated appliances (e.g. range hoods) require appropriate clearances and ventilation per manufacturer specifications and NZBC guidance

Alor's prefinished veneer panels offer exceptional versatility, adapting effortlessly to a variety of architectural styles and complex joinery detailing, enabling a seamless, durable and visually striking finish across a range of applications — from cabinetry doors to feature walls, ceilings and shelving.

Storage & Shelving

Beyond standard cabinetry, Alor suits light-duty open shelving and feature display shelving, where doubling up the panel improves both the look and the structural stability of the shelf. It also carries through wardrobe interiors — shelving, drawer fronts and hanging bay linings — and tall pantry or full-height storage runs, with the 2440mm and 3050mm sheet lengths aligning naturally with the 2100–2400mm heights these cabinets typically need.

Mudrooms & Alcoves

Alor's suitability for general storage and light cabinetry makes it a natural fit for mudrooms and built-in alcoves, where doors, drawer fronts and bench seating can carry the same refined finish through into a home's most hardworking transition spaces. Feature shelving can be doubled up for extra rigidity where boots, bags or sports gear add real weight, and end panels finished in the same veneer keep open bays and nook returns visually continuous with the joinery around them.

Vertical and Feature Surfaces

Alor panels can be applied as a dry-zone feature behind countertops, provided they're set back at least 300mm from wet, humid or heat-prone areas — bringing the natural timber aesthetic into a kitchen or joinery wall without asking the panel to perform as a true splashback. The same approach extends to feature wall panelling, where two panels laminated together and finished with wide veneer edgebanding create bold, double-thickness reveals, and to bulkheads or wrapped ceiling elements, where the 7mm 1FAB skin panel provides a consistent, single-sided finish over a solid substrate.

Bathroom Vanities

Alor is well suited to vanity doors, drawer fronts and side gables, giving bathroom joinery the same refined finish as the rest of a home. The one firm line is the vanity top itself: the panel is not intended as a working or sanitary surface, so it belongs on the cabinetry, not the benchtop.

Appliance and Service Integration

Panels can be specified as facings for panel-ready or integrated appliances such as dishwashers and fridges, with ventilation grilles cut directly into the panel and the exposed core sealed to match. Integrated range hoods follow the same principle, so long as the clearance and airflow guidance in the design guide is followed to protect the veneer from repeated heat and humidity spikes.

Timber veneer panels themselves carry genuine environmental advantages over solid timber. Because only a 0.6mm veneer layer is solid hardwood, Alor uses a fraction of the timber resource required for a solid timber panel of the same dimensions — alongside a Super E0 formaldehyde emission rating, a long lifespan, and the ability to be recycled or repurposed at end of life.
